The original Solarcon A99 fibreglass antenna from the USA  (previously known as the Antron 99).

Very easy to erect, it comes in 3 sections which simply screw together. No screws or jubilee clips etc required.

Easy to swr - in most cases no adjustment is required, but if needed all you have to do is turn the tuning rings at the base of the antenna. Once in position simply lock the 2 rings together.

All 3 sections are also available as spare parts.

Please note that the brackets supplied with this antenna will only fit a maximum 1.5" diameter pole. If you wish to mount it on a larger pole (eg scaffolding) then you need to buy larger brackets with the antenna (eg. 2 x F25).

An optional groundplane kit to fit on the Solarcon A99.

The kit consists of 4 fibreglass groundplanes, approx 6ft long, and a mounting collar.
The collar fits at the base of the A99 and the groundplanes are angled downwards at approx 34'

Originally these were made by Firestik and proved very popular, but they have not been available for several years now - so Thunderpole have now made their own version of it in the UK!

Not only is this shorter than the original A99 top section, but also claims a higher gain because it is wound (like a Firestik) rather than just a straight wire.

Everyone who has used one has reported some gain over the standard A99.

Personally I think this antenna is too large, it consists of 3 x 8ft sections (total 24ft) and does swing about a lot in the wind. But performance is about 3dB above the A99.

Made from non-corrosive aluminium, the telescopic tubes have plastic joining sleeves and are all secured with 2 screws.

Made from aluminium with Magnesium for better radio conductivity and maximum strength. This is certainly the strongest aluminium antenna available.

The large open coil prevents any build up of water or condensation and allows the antenna to handle high levels of RF power.

The top section is adjustable for swr, although in our experience there is usually no adjustment necessary.

The latest antenna from Sirio is their version of the classic Avanti Astro Plane.

An unusual design, the antenna is less than 12ft in height yet delivers the performance of a much larger antenna.

It is constructed of strong anti-corodal aluminium tubing and tuning is by a gamma match.

A very large 3/4 wave base antenna, this is a copy of the famous Avanti Sigma 4.

Performance is very good, but because of the size of this antenna (about 28 ft!) it does bend a lot in the wind and is quite easily broken. We recommend that you use non conductive guy wires (eg fishing line) half way up the antenna to support it.

Don't expect the same performance as a larger antenna, but if you really can not mount an antenna outside then this is an alternative.

We have found 5/8 wave antennas without groundplanes do not swr as easily as a 1/2 wave, and my preference is to go for the 1/2 wave instead of this.

A very compact base antenna, ideal for use inside or outside - but don't expect high performance!!  I would only expect a range of about 5 miles, but this does depend upon your location and where the antenna is mounted.

If you really can not use a full size base antenna, then this may be an option for you. It is only 3ft tall and requires no additional groundplane.

Easily mounted on any standard 1" mast (as used for TV aerials), this antenna can be used almost anywhere.

Certainly the best one of these style antennas (much better made than the Excalibur & Super Lance) and unlike others you don't have to keep chopping the coax to swr it!  The swr is preset and is surprisingly low across all 80 channels.

A very small (approx 1m) base antenna which can be used indoors or outdoors. Supplied with bracket and u-bolts.

This antenna will give very poor performance compared to other base antenna, and really is a last resort if you can not fit anything else. There is no groundplane required.

Expect a range of about 4 miles if mounted outside and possibly about 2 miles in the loft.

Swr is adjusted by changing the length of the coax. A cutting chart is provided and you must use the correct lenght of coax as listed (roughly mulitples of 9ft).

Probably the oldest and simplest antenna you could have - a basic 9ft + 9ft dipole.  Although these are supplied pre-tuned for 27MHz, they are easily modified for a wide range of frequencies.

These do work surprisingly well and are easy to erect. The only disadvantage is that they are weak and will break in the wind if used in an exposed area.
